In a bid to regain its lost ground in the Chinese market, Huawei has launched its Pura 80 smartphone series, aiming to capture the premium smartphone market years after US sanctions.

The launch of the Pura 80 lineup offers cues to the tech giant's efforts to reestablish itself in the home country, unfazed by the challenges posed by restrictions that have deeply affected its smartphone business.

It is believed that the Pura 80 series would now compel Apple, whose market share in China has evidently declined after which it resorted to offering iPhone discounts to boost sales, to revamp, Reuters reported.

During a virtual event, Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei's consumer business unit, touted the Pura 80 series' camera prowess and AI features but kept under wraps the details about the chips used in the devices.

What's known is that the series comprises four models, including the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, Pura 80 Pro+, and the Pura 80 Ultra.

Slated to be available from June 14, prices for the Pro model start from 6,499 yuan (£740), whereas the Pura 80 Pro+ and Pura 80 Ultra, to be available from June 26, are priced at 7,999 yuan (£910) and 9,999 yuan (£1,135), respectively.

The saddest part is that Pura 80's base model will be released in July.

While most of the main properties and configurations have yet to be disclosed, the latest Huawei series boasts XMAGE technology, including ultra-wide-angle and macro telephoto lenses with AI capabilities helping it identify objects and provide information like tourist guides.
