The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on Tuesday announced a maintenance activity on one of its submarine cables to address a fault, leading to internet service degradation for users.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PTCL stated: "The repair work, being carried out by an international cable consortium, will begin on April 14 and continue until April 20, 2026.
"A maintenance activity is planned on one of our submarine cables to repair a fault by international cable consortium," said the company in a post.
PTCL further added: "During this period, customers may face Internet service degradation during evening hours." In the statement, the company has apologised for the inconvenience.
The combined capacity of all six submarine cables serving the country include three PTCL cable systems, two submarine cable systems of Trans World Associates (Pvt) Ltd and PEACE cable of Cyber Internet Services, stands at 13Tbps, while national usage currently ranges between 7 and 8 Tbps.
Last week, telecommunication companies announced the launch of 5G services in selected areas after receiving spectrum licences at a ceremony in Islamabad. Earlier in March, the government concluded a spectrum auction in Islamabad, selling 480 megahertz (MHz) for $507 million.
