Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday announced that all vehicles entering Islamabad are now required to have electronic tags (E-tags) within the next two weeks.
The new directives are applied for both residents and visitors, with strict enforcement expected once the deadline expires. The interior minister stated that vehicles without E-tags will not be allowed to enter the capital, as this initiative is part of a broader effort to improve vehicle monitoring and control access to Islamabad.
Moreover, the minister ordered law enforcement agencies to intensify operations against illegal residents in Islamabad.
"No one will be exempt from this operation," said Naqvi, adding that every undocumented individual will be recognised and deported as part of the city's renewed security drive.
By digitalising vehicle identification and access, authorities aim to boost monitoring, prevent unauthorised entry of any vehicles, and improve emergency response capabilities to protect citizens' lives.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government aims to regain public trust and reinforce the safety of Pakistan's federal capital.
