In an effort to improve security and traffic control, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) government has placed cameras at 14 spots throughout the federal capital and M-Tag readers at 11 key locations.

To monitor and scan car m-tags and registration plates in real time, the Safe City Authority, which is in charge of the initiative, has connected the devices to its central system.

M-tag readers and cameras are installed at Adventure Inn Garden Avenue, Gandum Godown on IJP Road, Faizabad, NADRA Headquarters, N5 Margalla Iran Avenue, Bari Imam, T-Cross, Marriott Hotel, D-Chowk, G-14 N5 entry, Zero Point, Ninth Avenue, Foreign Office, Bhara Kahu Bridge, and the E-9 entry. All cameras are online except those installed at the E-9 entry at PAF.

Officials claim that the system's purpose is to detect vehicles that are not using an M-tag and to send out alerts when there are discrepancies.

The government's commitment to strengthening security measures was highlighted previously when Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that no car would be permitted to enter Islamabad without an e-tag.

All vehicles are required to have an M-Tag or E-Tag, with service points established citywide to facilitate registration.
