Stricter financial documentation requirements have been announced by the Italian Embassy in Pakistan for all applicants for Schengen visas.
Every Pakistani visitor must provide a bank statement no more than 30 days old that clearly demonstrates that they have enough money to cover their planned stay, starting right away.
The minimum required amount under current regulations is €28 (approx. Rs9,094) per day. Applicants must prove €2,520 (approx. Rs818,491) for the maximum permitted 90-day Schengen stay.
This criterion is applicable to all visa types, including business, family, and tourism.
Italy is among the most accessible Schengen countries, according to the embassy, with an approval rate of 88.72% in 2024; however, approval is largely dependent on accurate and comprehensive documentation.
According to recent data, one of the main reasons for rejection is having bank statements that are out-of-date or incomplete.
As part of the move to a fully digital, encrypted 2D barcode system to expedite procedures across member states, an EU official stated, "The new system will allow applicants to complete the entire process online, from document submission and fee payment to tracking application status and receiving the final visa."
It is recommended that candidates have six months' worth of bank statements, a letter of employment, and evidence of travel insurance that covers at least €30,000 (approx. Rs9,743,943).
The cost of the visa is still €80 (approx. Rs25,983) for adults, €40 (approx. Rs12,991) for kids aged 6-12, and free for kids under six.
Peak seasons may cause delays, but processing times are still 15-30 working days.
To prevent scams, the embassy advises visitors to apply at least six weeks prior to departure and to use official channels like the embassy website or VFS Global.
Pakistanis can visit the embassy's website or get in touch with the Italian Visa Application Centre in Quetta, Karachi, Lahore, or Islamabad for more information.
