The Punjab government has implemented the e-challan system in Rawalpindi to enhance traffic control and increase road safety.
This digital challan system involves monitoring cameras at strategic intersections to monitor traffic around the clock.
In order to reduce the need for manual enforcement and encourage drivers to follow traffic laws more responsibly, an automatic challan is generated and sent to the registered address of the vehicle owner when a violation is recorded.
Placed along key roads and intersections in Rawalpindi, the cameras identify infractions like speeding, wrong-lane driving, signal jumping and riding a motorbike without a helmet.
The process is transparent and reduces the possibility of disagreements or unjust penalties by creating and sending the vehicle owner a digital challan as soon as a violation is verified.
A contemporary control room that tracks traffic in real time is connected to this new system. It is anticipated that improved traffic discipline and emergency response times will result from the control room staff's ability to promptly identify traffic jams, accident scenes, and emergencies.
Rawalpindi drivers must exercise greater caution when using the e-challan system. Violators cannot negotiate or disregard the rules because they are automatically recorded.
Avoiding fines can be achieved by following traffic laws, which include wearing a helmet, stopping at red lights, and staying in the proper lane.
The government stresses that the goal of this system is to make travel safer and more convenient for everyone, not to punish individuals. Improved road etiquette saves time, prevents fatalities, and lowers accident rates.
