The private data of thousands of Pakistani citizens, federal ministers, and government officials has been compromised due to a major data breach.

The compromised information, which includes SIM ownership information, identity documents, call logs, CNIC photos, and past international travel records, is being freely traded online for small sums of money.

The Interior Federal Minister Mohsin Naqvi, acted quickly and ordered the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to begin a thorough investigation into the breach.

Notably, to investigate the incident, find the culprits, and pursue legal action, a 14-person special team has been assigned.

The team is anticipated to submit its findings in 14 days, having already started working on the project.

The illegal trade persists, endangering the safety and security of the populace despite prior attempts by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block websites that sell sensitive data.

According to security experts, this hack may seriously affect national security and undermine public confidence in government institutions.

The state of affairs has been characterised as a total system failure, underscoring the necessity of immediate action to stop such breaches and safeguard the private data of citizens.
