Microsoft's Copilot Plus PCs have been generating buzz in the tech world, but one feature has been in the controversy for the past week — Recall, an AI-powered tool that screenshots everything you do on the PC.
However, privacy and security advocates has expressed their concerns regarding this feature, leading Microsoft to delay the Recall's release.
However, before the Recall was made public, Microsoft stated that it would be tested using Windows Insider program to ensure it meets their high standards for the quality and security. This significant move came in response of the criticism the tech giant was facing for the Recall's potential security risks, prompting the company to change the feature’s policies, including the use of Window Hello for authentication, making it an opt-in feature, and encrypting the database.

The upcoming Recall feature functions in a way that it captures screenshots of the user’s activity using the local AI models built into Windows 11 and stores them to enable user to search and retrieve items later. Experts worry about the potential cybersecurity risks that a user might come across using this upcoming feature even though Microsoft has assured that all the data will remain private and local.
Earlier, Microsoft planned to release Recall alongside Copilot Plus PCs at the Microsoft Surface event but the tech giant is now holding back the release to ensure its security improvements meet their requirements.
Moreover, the company will be going to publish blog post announcing when the Recall feature will becomes available for Windows Insiders to test. This delay indicates that Microsoft needs more time to address the security concerns and make Recall a secure and reliable feature.
