Microsoft has officially announced the shut down of its Outlook Lite app after May 25, with users losing access to their mailboxes. If you have the app, you won’t find it removed from your phone, and it’ll continue to open, but Outlook Lite won't function as intended after the shutdown.

As per Neowin report, "Microsoft has locked in (the) final death date for Outlook Lite on Android,” which will “officially lose all mailbox access” on that deadline, “as Microsoft shifts its focus to the feature-rich Outlook Mobile."

The company aims to shift Lite app users to the Outlook Mobile app, which is now the standard offering across Android and iOS. This app is for Android users and for their lower-powered devices.

However, it is unclear how many users this discontinuation will affect, albeit new installs have been blocked for the last six months. Microsoft said "The Outlook Lite app was retired “starting October 6th, 2025. Existing users can continue using the app for a limited time before full retirement.”

After the deadline next month, “the Outlook Lite app will still open but mailbox access will be disabled and in-app navigation and functionality won’t work,” Neowin explains. No accounts will be deleted, but nothing will work properly.

Microsoft has advised users to switch to Outlook Mobile instead, where “all existing email, calendar items, and attachments will remain accessible when users sign in.”

How can Outlook Lite users switch to Outlook Mobile app?

Neowin stated there is an 'Upgrade' option inside the Outlook Lite app, which will send you off to the Play Store to get the latest version. Directing users here could be more straightforward for admins.
