Call of Duty, one of the largest first-person shooter franchises in the world, is going through another upheaval. Activision announced that Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and Modern Warfare 3 (2023) will be deleted from the Call of Duty HQ app on Tuesday at 9am PT.
The Call of Duty HQ app, launched in 2022, was originally designed as one centralised hub for fans that would allow them to access multiple titles under the franchise.
At launch, the app tied Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, with the older titles, Vanguard and Cold War, being linked through the app as well.
Last year, Modern Warfare 3 was included, which allowed players to seamlessly navigate between titles without having to exit the launcher.
With that said, it hasn't seemed to be a popular feature, and many fans seem to complain that simply downloading the games and having to take up more storage space doesn't ultimately simplify their processes.
After August 7, all MW2 and MW3 content (legacy content) tied to the overall Call of Duty install will also be deleted to "free up storage space."
Players that wish to continue playing MW2 and MW3 will now have to download the game again on their console/PC.
For Warzone players, it won't affect anything. Activision confirmed that all MW2 and MW3 operators and weapons will still be usable in the battle royale.
