The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Thursday launched a pilot project to offer CNIC reprints for lost cards and CNIC renewal services through selected e-Sahulat franchises.

e-Sahulat, which is administered by Nadra Technologies Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Nadra, has over 22,000 franchises across the country.

More than 9,500 of these have biometric equipment, consisting of fingerprint and camera biometric systems, allowing for verification of identity in Pakistan.

Usually operating out of local convenience stores, these e-Sahulat points have already made access easier for the public, specifically in addressing the long queues at the banks for those who need to settle their utility bills. They are now providing various biometric verification services.

“This pilot project serves as an additional means of providing CNIC services to those who cannot use the Pak-ID app, whether it’s due to illiteracy, lack of smartphone use, or travelling issues from Nadra registration centres, which are located at a distance,” said Nadra officials, explaining which objectives the introduction of this project will help to achieve.

The initiative, approved by the Authority Board in accordance with the provisions of the NADRA Ordinance 2000 and the NADRA Regulations 2002, has been initiated at 18 franchises of e-Sahulat in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi, and will offer the remaining services at the standard rates of Nadra, besides an extra fee of Rs100 payable for the services provided by e-Sahulat.
