
Nintendo invites gamers in for a mysterious Nintendo Switch Online playtest, and now it's accepting open applications. The company did not provide details on what the playtest is about, sparking speculation among fans and gaming enthusiasts.
Nintendo Switch Online playtest details
The playtest would be held from October 23 to November 5 and would have free-to-download exclusive software on the Nintendo Switch.
Up to 10,000 participants would be selected, with applicants from outside Japan chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Japanese applicants would be selected through a raffle if there are many applicants.
Nintendo Switch playtest eligibility criteria
To apply, you must:
- Have a Nintendo Account
- Be an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be registered in Japan, the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain

Nintendo Switch speculation and rumours
The secrecy surrounding the playtest has led to various speculations. Some are saying that maybe it’s a preview of GameCube games on Switch Online, or perhaps it has something to do with a retro Wii mini console or even a new Star Fox game.
How to apply for playtest
Applications start today, October 10 at 11:00am ET and would close on October 15 at 10:59am ET. You can apply on the Nintendo website.
The playtest might disclose Nintendo's long-term strategy regarding the future of Switch Online. Rumours of the Switch 2 also surfaced, and this playtest might provide a clue of what is in the works.
