Bringing much-needed relief for consumers amid rising living costs nationwide, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has dropped the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices by Rs4 per kilogram, effective January 1, 2025.

Offering relief amid rising energy costs, the new rates will be applied to both domestic and commercial consumers.

The price of an 11.8-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder is now Rs2,953, down from Rs3,001. Similarly, the cost of a 45.4-kilogram commercial cylinder has been reduced by Rs182, now priced at Rs11,363, The News cited a notification issued by OGRA on Tuesday.

It was also learned that the production cost of LPG has lso dropped significantly, decreasing by Rs4,020 per metric ton.

In view of lower production cost, these adjustments are expected to make LPG more affordable for households and businesses nationwide.

However, despite the official price reductions, reports indicate that LPG is still being sold at rates exceeding Rs300 per kilogram in certain areas, including Islamabad. Critics have raised concerns over OGRA’s inability to enforce the revised prices effectively.

The reduction in LPG rates was reportedly driven a 2% decline in Saudi Aramco’s Contract Price (CP) and fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate, resulting in a 1.58% drop in the cost of an 11.8-kilogram cylinder.
