Orion, OpenAI's next big artificial intelligence model, is likely to launch by the end of this year, according to recent reports.

Citing sources, the Verge reported that ChatGPT’s parent company is planning the release of its enhanced version of the GPT-4 AI model, “Orion”, by December, slated around the second anniversary of ChatGPT.

While Orion is coming as OpenAI’s successor to GPT-4, reports suggested that the company might call it GPT-5 but the official name of the AI model is yet to be confirmed by the company.

The Orion AI model is expected to include new architecture and capabilities and be up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4.

However, unlike GPT-4.0 and 1.0, OpenAI won't release Orion widely through ChatGPT; instead, it is planning to grant access initially to companies it's closely related to, to help them build their products and features before the model is available in the public domain.

Notably, Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI, might be one of those getting early access; however, it was also reported that the company is planning to host Orion on the Azure servers by November.
