Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGIP), in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), has launched a new biometric verification system that would enable applicants to confirm their fingerprints through the Pak-ID mobile app from their homes.
This marks a huge step towards fully digitising Pakistan's passport services and reducing the need for physical visits to government offices.
Biometric verification now possible from home
In this new system, applicants can verify their fingerprints anytime, anywhere through the Pak-ID app. In case the fingerprint scan is not possible, the app automatically offers facial recognition verification as an alternative, ensuring more convenience and inclusiveness in the process.
How does passport's biometric online process works?
The application process should be initiated online through the DGIP's passport portal.
- At the biometric stage, the system then requires them to:
- Open the NADRA Pak-ID mobile app.
- Go to the Biometric Verification section
- Select “Online Passport”
- Enter their passport tracking ID and CNIC number.
Follow through with the fingerprint or facial recognition steps as instructed. Depending on the outcome, an applicant will either receive an online confirmation message and be redirected to complete their online application in the web portal.
