To keep the internet safer for users in Pakistan, the government blocked more than 2,070 harmful websites and apps in 2024, according to fresh data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

These websites mostly involved phishing scams and malicious mobile apps targeting Pakistani users.

The reports came from the National Telecom Security Operations Center (NTSOC), which monitors cyber threats to Pakistan's telecom system. Pakistan's cybersecurity is increasingly becoming a big deal because of more online scams and stolen data.

To fight this, the NTSOC also found over 550 cases of Pakistani users's data on the dark web.

NTSOC's reports of activities outlined that they had to create more than 3200 Indicators of Attack (IoA), which signal someone is attempting to compromise a network. They generated 3946 Indicators of Compromise (IoCs) to assist organisations in detecting and blocking their threats prior to impacts.

Additionally, in the course of the year, it was able to pursue more than 200 security actions during the 2024 year. This specifically showed the range of publicly advisory notices from the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) to alerts that were privately issued to sensitive organisations.

PTA has also worked closely with internet service providers (ISPs) to block threats at the network level, preventing users from even encountering harmful content.

Furthermore, PTA highlighted the importance of working together. A two-way information-sharing system has been set up between government departments and private companies to report and respond to threats faster.
