Pakistan Railways have partnered with Allied Bank Limited (ABL), through signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to install advanced Point of Sale (POS) systems at 348 railway stations across Pakistan.
The signing ceremony, held in Islamabad, was chaired by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, who emphasized the initiative’s alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision of a “Digital Pakistan.”
Speaking at the event, Minister Hanif Abbasi stated that Pakistan Railways is embarking on full-scale digitalization in partnership with ABL, aiming to transform operations and enhance financial transparency.

The project is slated for completion within the next 60 days and is being implemented with urgency and dedication.
Once operational, the POS systems will let passengers purchase tickets and pay for other railway services using credit or debit cards, significantly reducing dependence on cash transactions.
This shift is expected to minimise queues, decrease manual work, and streamline commercial dealings.
The minister highlighted that real-time revenue monitoring will be enabled, promoting transparency and accountability across the rail network.
The POS systems are also expected to curb financial fraud, theft, and accounting errors.
Additionally, under ABL’s merchant services, food stalls, kiosks, and small vendors at railway stations will be able to accept digital payments.
This integration of micro-businesses into the formal financial system will advance financial inclusion and promote a cashless economy.
