In a nationwide crackdown, Pakistan Railways recovered Rs860,740 in fines from 345 passengers who were travelling without valid tickets as part of its increased efforts to stop fare evasion.
Under the leadership of Pakistan Railways Deputy Chief Commercial Manager Passenger Nasir Nazir, the operation targeted major trains on important routes like Lahore-Sahiwal, Sahiwal-Khanewal, Lahore-Faisalabad, Faisalabad-Shorkot, and Khanewal-Rohri, including Allama Iqbal Express, Tezgam, Khyber Mail, Awam Express, Pakistan Express, Shalimar Express, Millat Express, and Rehman Baba Express.
"This crackdown will continue to safeguard revenue and curb fare evasion," Nazir said, highlighting that the campaign is in accordance with orders from Chief Commercial Manager Tariq Anwar Sipra, Pakistan Railways CEO Amir Ali Baloch, and Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi.
The action attempts to address the substantial yearly loss incurred by Pakistan Railways as a result of fare evasion, a problem the department is attempting to solve through more stringent enforcement and modernisation initiatives.
The crackdown demonstrates Pakistan Railways' dedication to enhancing revenue collection and offering passengers better services.
