Pakistan has hit a new digital milestone, with the number of mobile phone users surpassing 200 million. This massive figure indicates how fast the nation is progressing in terms of mobile connectivity and digital inclusion.

Officials indicated that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will make this record officially during World Telecommunication and Information Society Day festivities this week.

According to the reports, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is getting ready to hold a national ceremony to celebrate this achievement.

The ceremony was initially scheduled for today but was delayed due to the Prime Minister's time. Now, it's supposed to happen on May 16 or 17, 2025.

To help mark 200 million mobile users, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Mobile Device Manufacturers (MDMs) are collaborating with PTA. On the event day, MNOs will be providing free data and voice packages to customers.

In addition, PTA has requested MDMs to donate 10 to 15 mid-range smartphones, and these will be awarded to lucky participants at the event through a lucky draw. All this effort is to make people from less connected regions have access to better mobile technology.
