While already reeling from intermittent connectivity disruptions, Pakistan is likely to experience internet slowdown on October 14, as the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced that maintenance work will begin on an international submarine cable.

The international cable consortium responsible for maintaining the network has scheduled essential repair on one of the submarine cable's repeaters, according to a PTCL spokesperson.

The repeater is a critical component for the transmission of data signals across long distances.

The repair and the subsequent internet service downgrade will reportedly begin at 11:00am on October 14 and will continue for approximately 18 hours, the spokesperson added.

Ufone, one of Pakistan's major mobile network providers, also notified its users in a Facebook post about the service disruption in question.

During this period, internet users across Pakistan may face notable internet blackouts or partial service interruptions.

PTCL assured customers that it is taking measures to reduce the impact by rerouting internet traffic through alternative channels to ensure stable connectivity.

It must be noted that submarine cables are the backbone of Pakistan’s internet infrastructure, linking the country to the global network, and maintenance work on these systems causes temporary disruptions.

With an internet outage looming, PTCL users are advised to plan their online activities accordingly.
