Pakistan is set to take a major step in the gaming industry with the launch of the country’s first E-Sports Academy under the Prime Minister Youth Program (PMYP). The project is designed to give young gamers a professional platform to enhance their skills and compete on international levels.

An official revealed that the academy will be established at a well-known university, featuring high-tech gaming arenas to serve as training centres for e-sports players.

A high-level meeting was recently held, chaired by Rana Mashhood, with representatives from Ignite, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Nayatel, Antakh Ventures, FAST University, the Ministry of IT & Telecom (MoITT), DG Sports from all provinces, and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). This meeting marked the first official step in shaping Pakistan’s e-sports future.

The goal is to develop local talent and bring international gaming competitions to Pakistan. The government also plans to promote the initiative through media campaigns, highlighting emerging gaming stars.

To ensure smooth implementation, dedicated committees and subcommittees will be set up to work on policy-making, infrastructure, and strategy.

The government is also trying to make e-sports officially recognised through national sports rules, which will provide entry to more proper regulation and finance. Telecommunications organisations such as Nayatel have been approached to provide high-speed internet packages specially made for professional games.
