Gone are the days when citizens in Pakistan had to undergo long-stretching queues in government offices to apply for Pakistani passports, as the passport processing is being digitalised.
The transition to online processing of Pakistani passports is taking place to make the process hassle-free and save the public from engaging in the hectic, conventional manner of fetching passports.
Immigration and Passports Director General Mustafa Jamal Qazi announced that a mobile application will be launched within two months.
Once the app is rolled out, Pakistani citizens will be able to submit their passport applications and fees using their smartphones.
He highlighted that a web-based portal is already operational to facilitate people, and the impending mobile app for Pakistani passports will further expedite the procedure.
The system will ensure fully online processing of Pakistani passports, with no physical trips to government offices required, culminating in the doorstep delivery of applicant's e-passports.
Qazi also reflected on the challenges faced by the department under his supervision, lamenting the shortages of lamination paper and ink, which he added caused delayed issuance of awaiting applicants' passports.
