Pakistan, alongside other regions including the Middle East and Asia, continue to face internet slowdowns caused by alleged submarine cable cuts near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Leaving users frustrated, especially during peak hours, the disrupted connectivity issue has been persisting for the past few days, affecting both uploads and downloads.

Why internet is down in Pakistan?

PTCL Group, the largest internet backbone provider in Pakistan, confirmed that the problem stems from faults in the SEA-ME-WE 4 (SMW4) and IMEWE cables, which are crucial for international data transfer.

The telecom provider added that the fault has partially impacted bandwidth on these systems.

This damage has led to congestion on alternative routes, resulting in slower internet speeds, noted a PTCL spokesperson.

On the resolution of these internet outages, PTCL stated that its international partners are working on repairs to restore full capacity, maintaining that local teams are also on the ground to provide alternative bandwidth to minimise the impact on customers. twi

Notwithstanding the efforts underway to reinstate the internet bandwidth to its fullest, users have been warned that service degradation is likely to be intermittent until the repairs are completed.
