
In a bid to take down illegally operating SIM cards and their providers, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have jointly begun launching raids.
Both the regulatory authorities conducted a series of raids nationwide, leading to the arrests of individuals involved in the unlawful sale of SIM cards registered with international network providers.
With numerous raids conducted in various regions across Pakistan including Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore, and Sialkot, the clampdown is part of the government's efforts to tackle the continuously growing number of frauds carried out using telecommunication means.
These pre-activated foreign SIM cards are reportedly used in different kinds of frauds and unidentified communications for illicit activities in the country.
On the sidelines of arresting suspects, the authorities also seized several illegally activated international SIM cards.
PTA and FIA have been keeping a close watch on the sale and functioning of activated international SIM cards that potentially endanger public safety by facilitating in unidentified and untraceable communications.
