The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday issued new guidelines for users regarding the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services across the country.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the authority has announced the licensing of VPN service providers under the reinstated Class Value Added Services (CVAS-Data) licensing framework.

Authorised VPN service providers in Pakistan

Under this framework, the PTA has granted Class licenses to different companies, which includes:

  1. Alpha 3 Cubic (Pvt.) Ltd. (Steer Lucid)
  2. Zettabyte (Pvt.) Ltd. (Crest VPN)
  3. Nexilium Tech (SMC-Pvt.) Ltd. (Kestrel VPN)
  4. UKI Conic Solutions (SMC-Pvt.) Ltd. (QuiXure VPN)
  5. Vision Tech 360 (Pvt.) Ltd. (Kryptonyme VPN)

It should be noted that these licensees are now eligible to offer VPN services to individuals and organisations for legitimate and lawful purposes.

"Users may now conveniently obtain VPN services directly from these licensed providers without the need to approach PTA for separate VPN registration of their IP addresses or mobile numbers.

This measure is aimed at promoting regulatory facilitation, user convenience, and enhanced cybersecurity across Pakistan’s digital ecosystem," said the PTA.

According to the PTA, the announcement of licensed VPN services will promote secure and lawful online connectivity, reduce cybersecurity risks related with unregistered VPNs as essential for protecting digital identity.
