The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced a streamlined process for the registration of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for all VPN-reliant businesses and professionals. This initiative comes ahead of a new deadline announcement to block unregistered VPNs.

Entities such as software houses, call centres, banks, embassies, and independent professionals are now required to register their VPNs through the PTA’s official website, www.pta.gov.pk. The new system simplifies the registration process and ensures that all users comply with PTA's regulations.

Additionally, members of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) can take advantage of this user-friendly facility to register their VPNs efficiently.

VPN registration process

To begin the registration, users are required to complete an online form that includes essential details such as their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), taxpayer status, and company registration information.

For freelancers, the PTA has specified additional documentation to verify their credentials. Freelancers are required to submit supporting documents, such as a letter or email from their client or affiliated company, to confirm their professional engagement.

Moreover, freelancers must provide the IP address they wish to use for VPN connectivity. If a fixed IP address is necessary, it can be obtained from an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Free and fast registration

The entire VPN registration process is gratuitous, and approvals are typically provided within 8 to 10 hours of submission. According to the PTA, more than 20,000 businesses and independent freelancers have succesfully registered their VPNs through this simplified and simple process since its launch.

Individuals seeking VPN access for commercial purposes, can apply under the 'Freelancer' category by submitting the necessary documents, including verification from their employer.

This initiative outlines the PTA's dedication to ensuring secure and reliable internet access for businesses and professionals across Pakistan.
