The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is going to make a major change in the computerised national identity card (CNIC) of Pakistanis at home and abroad.
The Punjab Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution that requests the inclusion of the cardholder's blood group on the CNIC. The resolution was introduced by Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Ahmad Iqbal Chaudhry, who emphasised it could preserve life by granting instant access to the crucial information needed in an accident or emergency, the blood group of the patient.
The resolution states that in hospitals and blood banks, there is usually a time-consuming process to procure blood transfusions, as the blood group of the patient is unknown.
The addition of the blood group to our national identity cards would relieve medical personnel from the burden of identifying the blood type of a patient, and increase the chances of survival during a medical emergency.
NADRA, at the present time, issues computerised identity cards to all Pakistanis at home and abroad. If this suggestion is accepted and implemented, the computerised national identity card will become an even more important piece of identification to assist with public safety and emergency management.
