In a major announcement for the province's educational landscape, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced that summer vacations in schools across the province will begin on May 28.

To address the ongoing heatwave and ensure students' health and safety, the education minister announced a rescheduling in school hours which is effective from May 21. The updated timings will be from 7:30am to 11:30am, according to Geo News.

The rescheduling of school timings is being exercised to compensate for the educational losses caused by school closures at different times, as noted by the Punjab education minister.

The development comes in response to the intensifying heatwave affecting the province, as the minister emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff amid the extreme temperatures.

In the wake of the heatwave ongoing nationwide, relevant departments have also issued safety guidelines to protect students.
