In a move aimed at increasing transparency and accessibility, the Punjab government has allowed vehicle owners to place bids for unique registration numbers through an online auction for premium “fancy” number plates.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will oversee the auction, which will take place on a completely digital platform so that bidders may place their bids from any location.

Vehicle owners can register until 30 January and place their bids using the official web portal or the PITB e-Auction mobile app.

Gold, platinum, and personalised combinations are among the high categories offered at the auction.

According to a PITB representative, “Our goal is to make premium number plate allocation fully digital and accessible, giving every vehicle owner an equal opportunity to bid for fancy registration numbers.”

Long queues, paperwork, and in-person office visits are all eliminated by the digital auction, which guarantees openness, efficiency, and fairness.

Owners of vehicles can place their offers online, view the list of successful bidders, and keep track of bids in real time.

This programme encourages participation from all car owners by streamlining the procedure of obtaining special plates.

Motorcycles, private automobiles, and commercial vehicles are all eligible for the auction; each has a separate category.
