Days after Karachi, Rawalpindi has launched the e-challan system in the city, officially starting electronic ticketing for traffic violations through Safe City surveillance cameras.

This project will ensure smoother traffic flow, promote law compliance, and strengthen public safety through real-time surveillance.

In Rawalpindi, cameras are placed at the following locations:

  • COD Chowk
  • Fauji Foundation
  • Liaquat Bagh
  • Raja Bazaar
  • Chandni Chowk
  • Commercial Market
  • Ali Chowhan Chowk
  • Ayub Park
  • Jinnah Park
  • Chaklala Railway Station
  • Gulzar-e-Quaid
  • Faizabad Metro Station
  • Pirwadhai Mandi Stop
  • Saddar Bank Road
  • Qasim Market
  • 22 Number Bakra Mandi Chowk
  • Kachehri Chowk
  • Rawal Road
  • Committee Chowk
  • Tench Bhatta
  • Chakri Road

Safe City Project uses high-resolution cameras, which detect traffic violators on different violations, such as running red lights, riding motorcycles without helmets, driving without seat belts, lane violations, and illegal number plates.

It should be noted that the system relies on artificial intelligence (AI) to identify violators and automatically generate e-challans, which are then delivered to their home address.

The government installed 2,000 cameras across 359 locations in Rawalpindi, including 15 cameras at entry and exit points.

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has urged citizens to follow traffic rules and road safety laws, emphasising that the system's success depends on public cooperation in making Rawalpindi a safer, secure, and modernised city.
