Rockstar Games has made it official: Red Dead Redemption and its standalone expansion Undead Nightmare launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, iOS, Android, and Netflix on December 2, 2025.
It's one of the biggest platform expansions for the franchise to date, bringing this seminal Western adventure to a whole new generation of gamers.
First released in 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption has sold over 17.5 million copies, beating timeless classics such as GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City. The game recently surged in popularity after its 2024 PC release, topping Steam with a 91% approval rating.
Modern enhancements for PS5, Xbox, and Switch 2
The new versions come with major upgrades designed for current-gen systems. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, players get:
- Enhanced image quality
- HDR support
- Up to 4K resolution
- Smooth 60 FPS gameplay
Nintendo Switch 2 players will also see 60 FPS performance, HDR, DLSS, and optional mouse controls.
Rockstar offering free upgrades and save transfers
Rockstar is offering free upgrades for those who already own the game on PS4, Nintendo Switch, or the digital Xbox One backwards-compatible edition.
- PS4 saves transfer to PS5
- Nintendo Switch saves transfer to Switch 2
- Undead Nightmare receives the same upgrades as the main game
These enhanced editions were developed with Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games. They will also be available through the GTA+ Games Library and PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue at launch.
