Due to the success of Resident Evil 4 remark, fans are anticipating any development regarding the upcoming sequel of Resident Evil (RE).

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 9 is under development and village director Koshi Nakanishi is leading the project.

There is a rumour consistently flying around Resident Evil 9, claiming that it may introduce an open-world design. This would be a very different approach from the claustrophobic, linear style of the series.

Core elements of Resident Evil in Open world

The introduction of an open-world setting puts the main, original atmosphere of Resident Evil at stake, as rumours about the Resident Evil Village and the RE 4 remake hinted at how the open world would function in Resident Evil, specifically if players are willing to retain a sense of the original versions.

The leak suggests that the developers might add stalker enemies such as Nemesis and Mr X since they are essential for the Resident Evil series. In the open world, the stalker enemies would be more dynamic and unpredictable and it won’t be scripted, as evident in the Resident Evil 3 and all that followed.

Resident Evil 9 can offer potential Alien: Isolation stalkers and multiple stalkers, with each ruling over different areas, where AI can adapt to the player's locations, which will create a highly tense and unpredictable environment for the players to enjoy.

It could feature larger areas for players to explore, hence allowing them to interact with other players in organic ways, depending on the players' positioning and actions.

However, this could be a bold move for Resident Evil, opening up new opportunities to evolve the iconic elements of the series with a touch of the latest gameplay innovations.
