Samsung has been shipping its Galaxy phones with a pre-installed messaging app called ‘Samsung Messages’ for years now.

However, the company has now decided to stop the built-in Samsung Messages app in its smartphones, at least in the United States.

The Korean tech giant has likely taken this step in favour of the Google Messages app that comes with RCS (Rich Communication Services) support.

Although Samsung Messages also supports RCS, Samsung wanted to push Google’s messaging app to its users.

The company has stopped pre-installing its messaging app on phones in the USA starting with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 devices. Therefore, the devices now have to use Google Messages as a default messaging app.

Meanwhile, in other countries including Canada and Europe, Samsung is still shipping its devices with Samsung Messages pre-installed, as users can still install the messaging app from the Google Play Store.

It’s important to note that this decision wasn’t taken in a day as Samsung already started to phase its messaging app out with the Galaxy S22 series that launched back in 2022 with Google Messages as the default messaging app in some regions.
