Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SAZEW), a leading Pakistani auto company, has pushed the launch date for its domestically manufactured New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) back to March 2026.

NEVs are contemporary vehicles powered by electric or alternate fuel instead of petrol or diesel. These include hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

In a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company stated that it has revised its plans for expanding its four-wheel vehicle facilities.

The launch was previously scheduled for December 2025, however, the new date is before March 31, 2026. The company also stated that it will now invest Rs11.5 billion in the project, a significant increase from the previous cost of Rs4.5 billion.

Moreover, Sazgar's Board of Directors have reportedly approved several upgrades as per the notice. They include the enlargement of the paint shop, the construction of new warehouse facilities, and the addition of a 5.7-megawatt solar power system.

Sazgar will also construct new facilities for NEV production in the local area, subject to obtaining the nod from the government.

In addition, the firm added that this huge investment will be funded from its own resources and excludes the cost of land. In September last year, Sazgar had declared that it would launch its CKD (Completely Knocked Down) NEVs by December 2025.

In November, it had announced plans to acquire land valued at Rs1.54 billion for future requirements.
