The Senate Standing Committee on IT and Telecommunication is set to investigate an audit report claiming that Jazz overcharged mobile users by Rs6.58 billion.

The committee will also look into spectrum irregularities, including allegations of illegal spectrum use by China Mobile, as well as issues related to PTCL and Ufone.

The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, will be headed by Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan. Citing official notice, PhoneWorld outlined that the committee will hear briefings from various regulatory bodies and officials.

The PTA chairman and the auditor general of Pakistan will present findings on the alleged overcharging by Jazz, including claims that the company could raise tariffs by up to 15% each quarter. They will also discuss measures taken by the PTA to protect mobile users' rights.

Additionally, the committee will review the capital expenditure of all telecom operators over the past three years, service quality measures, and results from recent quality surveys.

Officials from the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), PTA, and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) will provide updates on registered call centres and software houses, including revenue details and actions against cyber fraud.

The committee will also discuss ongoing litigation regarding spectrum issues, including those involving Sun TV and China Mobile, aiming to enhance regulatory compliance and safeguard consumer rights in Pakistan’s telecom sector.
