Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday announced that the provincial government plans to completely phase out all old-model buses across the province.
During a speech in the Sindh Assembly, the minister said that for the phase out of old buses, the provincial government is continuously meeting with transporters, as the provincial government will give interest-free loans to purchase the new buses with advanced capabilities.
"Sindh government aims to promote 'Peoples Bus Service' across the province, giving commuters a better travel option," said Memon.
With the new fleet of electric buses now in Karachi, the government plans to roll them out on major routes across the city starting in December.
Moreover, 'Peoples Bus Service' will also be launched in Hyderabad, Khairpur, and Sukkur to Shikarpur, providing citizens with a better option.
Last month, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced that Green Line BRT is finally set to restart its halted second phase construction, with new stations and a revised plan aimed at speeding up completion of the project by October 31, 2026.
A 1.8-kilometre stretch from Numaish Chowrangi to Municipal Park (Jama Cloth) will include three new bus stations. A Traffic Signal Priority (TSP) system will be installed to provide buses priority at traffic lights, giving passengers a faster and smoother travel experience.
