The government of Sindh is gearing up to introduce an e-taxi service in the province, providing online taxi drivers with electric vehicles (EVs) at affordable rates, aiming to create job opportunities for youth.

This initiative will not only offer employment but also promote eco-friendly transportation. The e-taxis will be made available to drivers through convenient instalment plans, encouraging wider participation of unemployed youth in the programme.

E-taxi service in Sindh

Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon assigned the Secretary of Transport to engage with banks and financial institutions to explore various financial models for launching e-taxi services across the province.

The minister recently met with officials of a Karachi-based company that assembles electric taxis, where he was briefed on the environmental benefits of these EVs.

Memon emphasised that providing EV taxis in easy instalments would create job opportunities and support the provincial government's vision of a greener Sindh.

The project is expected to launch soon, with the first batch of EV taxis offering a reliable and affordable option for unemployed youth in Sindh.

It should be noted that the Punjab government also launched a similar e-taxi service programme to tackle the increasing air pollution caused by vehicle emissions.
