Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has officially decided to make payments to consumers for the electricity exported to the grid via solar systems.

According to officials, this initiative will be carried out under the policy of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

Payments to the consumers will be made based on the number of exported units, with a thorough verification and cross-checking process before disbursement.

The noteworthy development is that consumers will be required to approach their LESCO offices to receive payments for surplus electricity, as the amount will be processed separately from routine electricity bills.

Officials said divisional and revenue officers will be responsible for inspecting net metering connections.

After inspection, cases will be prepared by revenue offices on the basis of a test check proforma. Once prepared, the case will be sent to the finance department.

Following approval, consumers will be issued cross-checks against the value of exported units.

According to officials, this initiative aims to encourage renewable energy use and reward consumers who contribute clean energy to the grid.
