The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Thursday issued a winter schedule that will leave household clients in Sindh without gas from 10pm to 5am every night due to a severe gas shortage.
According to an SSGC representative, the decision is part of the company’s seasonal adjustment strategy to efficiently manage scarce resources. The amended timeline reflects the load management framework established by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
Initially, the company had not intended to apply load-shedding to residential users in Balochistan and Sindh.
However, to replenish line-pack levels for residential consumption the following day, midnight gas cuts have now become inevitable due to the sharp drop in available gas.
The CNG industry, which will see a weekly shutdown as part of the broader conservation effort, will also be impacted by the shortage.
The gas supply will resume at 5am, and regular business will continue until 10pm.
This decision highlights the ongoing challenges Pakistan’s energy sector faces and the need for efficient resource management to ensure a steady supply of gas to meet domestic and industrial demand.
