Buying brand-new cars is going to be more expensive in Pakistan as the government has proposed a significant hike in taxes, directly raising the prices of the Swift alongside many other popular vehicles.

After including the 18% general sales tax (GST) and a newly introduced 1% Green Tax, the prices of the Suzuki Swift are expected to increase by over 260,000. The Green Tax is applied to all internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, whether locally assembled or imported.

Swift GL MT, which was so far priced at Rs4.336 million, will now cost Rs4.599m after registering an increase of over 263,000 in taxes.

The price of Swift GL CVT has gone up from Rs4.560m to Rs4.836m after adding Rs276,365 tax. The greatest spike has reportedly been seen in the prices of the higher-end GLX and GLX CVT Two-Tone variants, both rising from Rs4.719m to Rs5.003m, marking an increase of Rs284,936 within tax-related costs.

It's worth adding that the new budget 2025-26 has also raised the GST from 12.5% to 18% on vehicles with engine sizes up to 850cc, a massive increase in order to boost state revenues.

Although these additional taxes will help normalise the transition towards environmentally friendly transport, meaning electric vehicles (EVs), experts have warned that they are also making conventional cars more expensive for consumers, something which might discourage and badly impact sales.
