TikTok, IT ministry join hands to boost educational content in Pakistan

Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, met with a delegation from TikTok on Wednesday to discuss the platform’s role in educational initiatives.

The meeting was attended by Director of Public Policy Emer Gilmartin and focused on mutual interests and strategies for fostering valuable and impactful content on social media platforms.

The delegation presented a report to the minister on TikTok’s ongoing progressive initiatives and future plans catering to the diverse needs of users engaged with the platform.

UtilisingTikTok for education in Pakistan

Khawaja underscored TikTok’s widespread popularity among Pakistani users and emphasised the significance of meaningful and accessible content. She further outlined her vision of utilising TikTok for educational purposes, suggesting the platform could influence the youth and play an important role in teaching skills and basic education in local languages.

The TikTok delegation assured the availability of meaningful and high-quality content on the platform. They expressed a willingness to collaborate with departments under the Ministry of IT to promote meaningful and educational initiatives, thereby further strengthening their engagement with the Pakistani community.

Khawaja highlighted that TikTok holds tremendous potential for skill development and knowledge sharing, and assured the Ministry of IT’s full commitment to this vision with strong support for the country's rapid growth. 

The TikTok delegation reiterated their commitment to fostering valuable and engaging content on the platform. They also expressed their readiness to partner with the Ministry of IT departments to promote educational initiatives and establish a strong connection with the Pakistani community.
