Mobile internet services on Sunday began to partially restore in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after a two-day suspension, following a protest by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

In several areas of the twin cities, mobile services have been restored, while some localities continue to experience partial disruptions.

On the directives of the Ministry of Interior, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) suspended mobile internet services as a preventive measure to maintain public safety.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had approved the suspension to curb any potential unrest or misuse of digital platforms during the protest.

Containers were placed at key entry and exit points of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, while security forces were deployed to ensure law and order.

Moreover, the federal government imposed Section 144 to restrict public gatherings and the display of weapons.

Road situation in Islamabad

Rawalpindi Traffic Police has issued a new plan regarding road routes, as out of 43 blocked locations in the city, six have been fully reopened, while 35 have been partially cleared. Faizabad remains completely closed for the third consecutive day.

A spokesperson for the Rawalpindi Traffic Police said that Traffic is flowing smoothly at all points along Murree road, and normal traffic conditions have also been reported on Mall road and Peshawar road.

Meanwhile, the Metro Bus service remains suspended for the third consecutive day between Saddar Station and Pak Secretariat.

According to Metro Bus authorities, the suspension was carried out on the directives of the district administration.

The restoration of mobile internet in Islamabad and Rawalpindi is being carried out in phases, depending on the security situation.

Officials said complete restoration will take place once the threat of unrest subsides and normalcy returns to the region.
