The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a new bilingual chatbot called Jais Chat, aiming to revolutionise the way people interact with technology. Developed by Core42, a subsidiary of G42, the artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud giant of Abu Dhabi, Jais Chat is proficient in both Arabic and English.
This innovative chatbot boasts an "Arabic-centric model," allowing it to efficiently process Arabic text, according to Core42. Similar to popular chatbots like ChatGPT and Copilot, users can interact with Jais Chat through prompts to find information, receive answers, and potentially discover solutions beyond the capabilities of traditional search engines.

Jais Chat is built upon G42's pre-existing large language model for Arabic, simply named "Jais." This foundational model was a collaborative effort between G42, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and Silicon Valley's Cerebras Systems, released in 2023.
"Jais reshapes how bilingual individuals interact with technology" with its focus on Arabic language processing, remarked Andrew Jackson, Core42's executive vice president and chief AI officer. The name Jais itself holds significance, referencing the UAE's highest mountain peak located in Ras Al Khaimah.
Looking ahead, Core42 envisions expanding Jais Chat's functionalities to include document processing, voice conversation abilities, and even enterprise support with subscription plans for businesses seeking custom features.
