While the country has been reeling from disrupted internet services for the past few months, a wave of optimism seems to be emerging, bringing an end to the longstanding internet slowdown in Pakistan.

The installation of the web management system (WMS) will be completed by October 20, 2024, serving as a sigh of relief for the country's entire digital landscape.

Citing sources, Geo.tv reported that internet speed lags gripping the country's digital space will be resolved by the end of the ongoing month.

The development comes to light on the heels of an earlier announcement made by the PTA chairman, stating: “The decision to close X is that of the federal government. We will open it when the government asks for it. Our compliance rate from X is very high but it only complies with 27%.”

Originally kick-started in 2019, not only will WMS settle the persistently sluggish internet nationwide, but will also aid in countering cyber attacks carried out by notorious hackers.

Drawing a comparison of Pakistan's deep-rooted internet crisis with that of India, the PTA chairman earlier noted that the internet services in Pakistan last year were affected only seven times, whereas it took over India 116 times.

“I do not defend internet shutdown but national security is a priority. This time on Muharram 10, the mobile service was not widely shut down. The internet service was shut down in certain areas only at certain times,” he remarked.

He urged all social media platforms to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure the timely eradication of inappropriate content from social media platforms.
