Doubts have emerged about Elon Musk’s claim of being an avid player of Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2, games that require significant time commitments.
Musk, the world’s highest-paid CEO, is known for his demanding responsibilities as the head of several ventures, including Tesla, xAI, Neuralink, X (formerly Twitter), and The Boring Company. He also serves as CEO of SpaceX, his space exploration and satellite enterprise.
Diablo IV
Released in 2023, Diablo IV is a dungeon-crawling game and the fourth main instalment in the Diablo series. Gaming industry analyst Mat Piscatella describes it as a game that appeals primarily to players through the endless pursuit of better weapons, armour, and items. The game involves fighting monsters, evading traps, and solving puzzles, with players often spending hours grinding—repeating tasks to accumulate loot.
While Musk has posted videos and comments suggesting he has played the game’s Barbarian and Spiritborn characters, public scepticism persists about whether he could dedicate the necessary time to gaming while managing his many companies. According to Circana's Player Engagement Tracker, the average Diablo IV player in the US spends between 10 and 35 hours per month on the game.
Path of Exile 2
Musk also claims to play Path of Exile 2, a game widely regarded as more complex than Diablo, with a steeper learning curve. In the US, the average player spends between 37 and 50.7 hours per month on the game.
While Musk has reportedly played both Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2, the authenticity of his claims remains uncertain, given the substantial time commitments required to engage with these games fully.
