After being suspended for over a year, social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has been restored in Pakistan following Indian missile attacks in different parts of the country, confirmed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday.
Given the confirmation, it was established that the Elon Musk-owned social media platform is now accessible on both mobile networks and web browsers without requiring users to install virtual private networks (VPNs).
The confirmation validates the spate of reports that began circulating on the internet around midnight today, suggesting that the platform was fully restored in the country, with some users claiming to have regained smooth access to X.
X's restoration coincides with mounting tensions between India and Pakistan after missile attacks, launched by the former, hit Bahawalpur and Muzaffarabad.
Responding to the Indian aggression, Pakistan’s military reportedly shot down multiple Indian Air Force jets, with the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) detailing that the strikes killed 26 civilians and injured 46 more.
Part of the Indian offensive, a surge in cyber attacks was also reported in Pakistan, aimed at spreading misinformation and causing disruption in major networks.
In view of a surge in cyber attacks, the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has issued an advisory that hostile elements are attempting to exploit the current situation by launching targeted cyber campaigns to mislead the public.
