27 electric buses to initially operate on two routes in Lahore

As a fleet of 27 electric buses is set to reach Lahore by the end of this month, Punjab Transport Secretary Dr Ahmad Javid Qazi revealed on Monday that the buses will initially operate on two routes only. 

Slated to first reach Karachi Port on January 15, the eco-friendly buses are coming six days ahead of schedule, Qazi said while speaking to a news outlet, according to The News

The Punjab transport secretary noted that Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will receive the buses, from Karachi Port. 

Reportedly bought from China, the buses will reach Lahore on January 21, followed by an inaugural ceremony. 

It was also learned from Qazi that preparations were finalised to make the buses operational by January 31 on two routes in the city.

It should be noted that the routes designated for the electric vehicles (EVs) are two, cruising down from Canal Road and Railway Station to RA Bazaar. 

Expected to remain operational for 12 years, the cost of each bus is Rs88 million, with the cost of 27 buses totalling 2.46 billion.
