Toyota is gearing up to launch its first-ever hybrid Land Cruiser, excitingly combining off-road muscle with hybrid technology.

The Land Cruiser is one of the world's most iconic SUVs, offering toughness, power and a vehicle that can tackle the toughest terrain.

Notably, for the first time, Toyota is introducing hybrid technology to this iconic vehicle. The hybrid Land Cruiser will be available in Australia in the first half of 2026.

This performance hybrid is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine and electric motor working together and creating a parallel hybrid system for comparable power and torque compared to the current 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel variant.

Toyota indicates it will also offer improved acceleration and fuel efficiency, as well as more towing capability.

This new model demonstrates Toyota’s strategy of offering a variety of electrified vehicles instead of constraining their models to one unique solution.

The automaker wants to accommodate many types of drivers, whether their priorities are performance, fuel economy, or environmental sustainability.

What makes this hybrid SUV even more distinct is that it was tested in extreme situations of desert and mountainous trails in the Middle East. The electric motor provides more control in regard to the throttle, thus providing maximum enjoyment, precision, and thrill in off-roading.

Toyota first introduced hybrid vehicles to the Australian market with the Prius in 2001, and now the company is applying the same technology to its largest and toughest SUV.
