If you are an Android user then your phone’s fastest charging threshold wouldn’t be more than 7.5W, which is considered quite slow, but recently Android Authority has claimed that this year Android 15 is likely to elevate the threshold that could be changed to 20W.

Android holds three main thresholds for charging that are under 5W, the phone screen would inform the user about the slow charging, over 7.5W means that your phone is charging faster.

Moreover, the recently acclaimed change of 20W is not available in Android 15 beta yet. So, if you are a beta-laden Pixel phone holder then it would still entail the old charging thresholds because this feature is not live yet.

However, the 20W charging threshold also doesn’t seem to be faster because there are few phones in the market which support 100W charging as well. But, in contrast to 7.5W, 20W is considered comparatively better.

What is the impact of this change on other mobiles?

While several advanced smartphones boast exceptional charging speeds, Google pixel phones haven't kept steady. The recently launched Pixel 8 Pro, provides a maximum charging threshold of approx 30W, which is technically considered as ‘fast charging’ under recent Android 14 definition. But, the recently announced 20W in Android 15 wouldn’t be classified as such. This modification is likely to poke Google to introduce faster charging capabilities in the upcoming phones.
