In a significant leap towards a data-driven future, Pakistan has launched the National Big Data Portal with the help of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and LUMS.
The project seeks to centralise public data, allowing citizens, researchers, and decision-makers to easily access it.
Federal Minister for Planning Development & Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said: “This portal is an essential step in Pakistan's digital transformation and commitment to align with the global data revolution.”
He emphasised how crucial data is to advancing innovation, progress, and well-informed decision-making. He did, however, acknowledge the difficulties posed by fragmented data systems and constrained analytical powers.
The government is developing the 5Es Framework, which emphasises using digital technology to propel national development, in order to address these issues.
This includes strengthening governance, public services, healthcare, education, and climate resilience through the use of big data and cloud computing.
The federal minister also encouraged universities to create solutions to local issues, while stressing the value of incorporating cloud computing and data science into university curricula.
He declared the opening of "Quantum Valley Pakistan," a national technological ecosystem expected to unite government, business, and researchers to promote partnerships, science parks, and digital innovation.
He also urged to take joint action in order to transition from "talk to transformation" and transform ideas into reality.
